Emma Johnson

The Corruption and Crime Commission is pleased to announce the appointment of its new Chief Executive, Emma Johnson.
Ms Johnson is making a return to the Commission having served as a member of Senior Executive, responsible for strategy and assessment from 2016 to 2018.

In the interim period, she has further developed her leadership capabilities in integrity agencies including the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority and Sport Integrity Australia, which was established in 2020 and where she was Deputy CEO.

Ms Johnson was most recently an Assistant Commissioner at Australian Border Force.

Commissioner John McKechnie KC, said the highly competitive, nation-wide search for a new Chief Executive had resulted in the appointment of an outstanding candidate who would now play a key role in positioning the Commission for the future.

“The work of the Commission has always been critically important but it is also becoming increasingly complex and technical, he said. “Ms Johnson has had excellent experience in leading integrity agencies working to counter corruption at the most serious and sophisticated levels.

“She adds to the depth and breadth of the Commission’s capability and will be a strong leader for our very committed team.”

Commissioner McKechnie also paid tribute to Mr David Robinson who took up the Acting Chief Executive role at the Commission 18-months ago.

The Chief Executive role was formerly held by Mr Ray Warnes who passed away in October last year, having been awarded a Public Service Medal that same year for his outstanding service and commitment.

Mr Robinson now returns to lead the Commission’s Operations Directorate, including responsibility for the Commission’s significant ‘unexplained wealth’ powers.

Ms Johnson commences her role as Commission Chief Executive on Tuesday 9 May 2023.
