Anyone can report unexplained wealth to the CCC. Once a report is received, it is appraised by the CCC.
The CCC may decide to:
- Consult, cooperate and exchange the information with other relevant agencies.
- Conduct an investigation independently or in cooperation with another agency.
- Take no action and file the information for intelligence purposes.
The CCC will not contact the person who submits an unexplained wealth report unless further information is required.
Can I tell other people about a report I made to the CCC?
Legislation does not prevent a person who has made an unexplained wealth report from telling anyone. However, discussing the details of your suspected unexplained wealth report should be considered carefully, as this may compromise a potential investigation.
What happens if a person is found to have unexplained wealth?
If a CCC investigation reveals a person has unexplained wealth, the CCC may apply to the court for an unexplained wealth declaration against the person. The person may be liable to pay to the State the amount specified in the declaration.
